Telem Students Making a Difference

The 11th-12th grade Telem students have now completed two service trips to the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester (BGD); our service site for this year. The BGD is an organization which provides underprivileged children, ages 6-18, with the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities, including: sports, music, and social recreation. They also provide tutoring and other educational enrichment. That's where we come in. Our students have been brought in as reading buddies for the club's younger children. They have a wonderful library/reading room where the Telem students sit with the BGD students and read to them as well as help them with their reading skills. The response from the BGD students has been overwhelmingly positive and they clearly love having our Telem students there. As the year goes on, one major goal is for the Telem students to develop meaningful relationships with the children they are reading to every other week. They are truly making a difference in these children's lives and as time goes on this will become more and more apparent. I am absolutely thrilled that they are enjoying this work and I am excited for our role with the BGD to further develop.
